Keroche CEO narrates her last moments with daughter, Tecra Muigai

The Keroche family tried in vain to persuade their daughter Tecra Muigai to cut her relationship with Omar Lali.
They were upset Omar was way older than her and that she was the one footing the bills instead of the other way round.
But Tecra was was deep in love, rejecting every frantic effort to extract her fromthe jaws of death.
According a statement recorded by her mother Tabitha Karanja to the police, Tecra was categorical that their love with the Lamu-based Omar was mutual and that she even wanted to establish a Keroche distributorship in Lamu so she be based at the Coastal town with Omar.

Tecra died last year from head injuries she allegedly sustained at a hotel she was living in with Omar in Lamu last year. She got evacuated to Nairobi hospital where she succumbed.
She was 30 while Omar was 50 at the time.
An inquest into her death kicked off on Monday in Nairobi with Karanja and another witness Peter Kariuki testifying.
The first stab at convincing her to quit was over the phone when she first saw the picture of the ‘old’ Lali.
When Tecra refused, the statement said, alongside her husband James Karanja tried to visit her at her Naivasha residence to discuss the matter. Guards at the gate refused to let them in, she wrote.
Tecra would later call them and arranged for a meeting at Lake Naivash County Club to discuss the matter.
“I, her dad, Uncle and step brother went top the meeting where we talked to her and expressed our disapproval of the relationship,” she wrote. The pleas fell on deaf ears.
AFTER THE MEETING, SHE TOLD THE POLICE, SHE GOT INFORMATION THAT TECRA HAD LEFT FOR LAMU ALONGSIDE OMAR. AT THIS, SHE GOT CONCERNED AND “DISPATCHED OUR ELDEST SON JAMES TO LAMU TO GO AND TRY TO TALK TO HER.”
The brother, who went in the trip with her girl-friend, came back empty-handed. Tecra did not bulge, she said.

In December 2019, Tabitha and her husband traveled to Lamu in effort to convince their daughter. A courageous Tecra showed up with Omar at the meeting with her parents. It was the first the parents would meet him, she said.
“TECRA INFORMED US THAT SHE WAS IN LOVE WITH OMAR AND SHE WANTED THE FAMILY TO UNDERSTAND THAT THE FEELING WAS MUTUAL,” SHE WROTE.
She said that Tecra informed them that she had explored means to develop a distributorship in the area and that she had made a down payment for a boat to ferry Keroche products from Mukowe mainland to Lamu island.
