Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna is now mocking Kenya Kwanza politicians for engaging in the same thing they have been criticizing others for doing.
Sifuna says that it is funny to see the people who were against the Azimio La Umoja leadership questioning the Supreme Court’s verdict just last year now doing the same after its ruling on LGBTQ rights.
He has wondered why the same people who were asking Azimio to accept the Supreme Court’s validation of President William Ruto’s win are now lamenting after it allowed the LGBTQ community to be registered as a society.
For the ODM Secretary General, this shows just how hypocritical Kenyan politicians are, as they support that which favours them and oppose that which doesn’t, even if it is the right thing.
“It has exposed very serious hypocrisy, when we were protesting the decision of the Supreme Court they were telling us that this is the highest court in the land, and the matter is over,” he is quoted by The Star.
This comes at a time when the Supreme Court is under fire from Kenya Kwanza bigwigs, led by Ruto himself, who has said that while he respects the court, he does not agree with it on this one.
Among the first politicians to condemn the verdict was National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, as the LGBTQ community continues to be largely seen as an immoral group by most Kenyans.
But Sifuna also observes that Kenya Kwanza politicians are now also using the debate as a distraction from the fact that Ruto has failed as a President and has been unable to keep his campaign promises.
“For me, this discussion is a total distraction, we want to move the focus of the nation from the kitchen where people are unable to feed their families, we want to move the discussion to the bedroom, it is absolutely ridiculous,” the lawmaker is quoted.
