Jubilee Party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni has sparked a heated debate following his bold remarks about Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s handling of the abduction crisis in Kenya. Kioni criticized Gachagua for downplaying the gravity of the situation, accusing him of making empty promises without taking meaningful action. “DP Rigathi Gachagua must stop trivializing the serious issue of abductions in the country because this is not a game or a platform for empty rhetoric,” Kioni stated. His comments have ignited a fierce reaction among Kenyans, with many questioning the government’s commitment to addressing the growing concerns surrounding forced disappearances.

Kioni’s strong statement highlighted the growing frustration of families who have been affected by abductions and the lack of accountability for those responsible. “His statements of revealing those involved without following through with actionable disclosure are both irresponsible and a slap in the face to the families suffering from these tragedies,” Kioni added. His call for more concrete action has struck a chord with many, urging the government to take immediate steps to address the alarming trend.

Kenyans have since taken to social media to express their views. User Loveu raised concerns about the potential links to past political events, stating, “We should pray for our president because if he is guilty of 2007, the same could be haunting him.” Others, like Victor Masakwe, showed support for Gachagua, commenting, “Anyway, Rigathi Gachagua is the true man.” On the other hand, Cosmas Nduva accused Kioni of seeking favor within the current administration, suggesting he is “conforming to the system.”

Edward Njunguna, highlighting the emotional impact of abductions, stressed the need for action. “There is an urgent need for a Gen Z social network group with details of all those who have disappeared without a trace,” he said, calling for more awareness and mobilization to demand justice. As the debate continues, it is clear that the issue of abductions remains a deeply divisive and urgent matter in Kenya’s political landscape.
