Now that the August presidential election has been decided in his favor, specifics about how President William Ruto rewarded Commissioners Abdi Guliye and Boya Molu as well as Chairman Wafula Chebukati of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) have surfaced.

MPs from the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition, led by Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi, accused the commissioners of misusing funds on needless overseas trips in a statement released on Twitter by Citizen TV.

Wandayi claims that President William Ruto gave the three of them the travel privileges they have been taking domestically and abroad as a thank you for making sure Ruto won the presidency.

“The departing commissioners have mishandled public funds that the IEBC has been given to operate, going on a rampage.” We have documented numerous international travels for unclear purposes and planned to help a particular subset of the commission members,” Wandayi said.

The lawmaker went on to demand a special audit of the commission’s use of its resources, claiming that millions of dollars had been lost.
