Bipartisan negotiations were abruptly put on hold by Azimio, according to Kenya Kwanza, who also claimed that there were no fundamental divisions between the two sides. Thursday’s news conference at Parliament Buildings featured comments from George Murugara, co-chair of the Kenya Kwanza committee. He contended that before using Clause 37 of the Agreement, Azimio had not pursued all potential channels for resolving any growing disagreements.

Murugara claims that if an agreement cannot be reached, the co-chairs of both sides are required to meet and talk about the problems in accordance with Clause 34 of the agreement. He noted that Azimio had disregarded this requirement. Murugara promised that his team would properly look into the problems brought up by Azimio and respond to co-chair Otiende of Azimio.

Murugara proceeded by saying that he would be inviting Amollo to a meeting on Monday at 2:30. Azimio gave the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, led by President William Ruto, a six-day deadline on Wednesday to allay their fears in order for the negotiations to move forward. Tuesday is the day that the deadline will pass.

Murugara reaffirmed Kenya Kwanza’s commitment by saying that his side is prepared to pick up the conversation as soon as the following day. He begged Azimio to avoid adding pointless barriers to the talks and criticized the ongoing demands and deadlines as being made in bad faith.

However, Murugara countered Azimio’s claim that Kenya Kwanza had been unwilling to address the real problems, such as the cost of living, an audit of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) servers, the reorganization and reconstruction of the IEBC, and the prevention of Azimio’s affiliate parties’ takeover.
