The burial date for the late Kelvin Kiptum, a renowned marathoner, has been adjusted to allow for the attendance of President William Ruto. Originally scheduled for February 24, the burial will now occur on February 23 to accommodate the president’s busy schedule.

Kelvin Kiptum tragically lost his life on the late night of February 11, along with his Rwandese coach, Gervais Hakizimana. As a world record holder in athletics, Kiptum is set to receive state honors during his burial.

The decision to change the burial date ensured President Ruto’s presence at the ceremony. However, his availability on February 24 was hindered by his commitment to attend the state funeral of the late Namibian president, Hage Geingob.

Geingob’s state funeral is scheduled for February 24, followed by his interment on February 25. Given the importance of Kiptum’s burial as a state event, it was essential to align the date with President Ruto’s availability.

A family spokesperson confirmed the date change, emphasizing the significance of President Ruto’s attendance at Kiptum’s funeral. Additionally, efforts are underway to fulfill Kiptum’s wish of building a three-bedroom house for his family before the burial date.

Engineers are working diligently to complete the construction within the seven-day deadline, ensuring that Kiptum’s legacy and wishes are honored during this solemn occasion.
