Following a fatal ambush attack by suspected bandits in broad daylight, one police officer had been shot dead and another injured in Marsabit County. The cops were part of the security unit accompanying a group of herders who had found 25 heads of their cattle that had been stolen from them earlier in the week.
According to the police report, the tragic event happened in the Malgis area, close to the boundary between the counties of Marsabit and Isiolo, at about 4 p.m. The security squad was caught off guard when the assailants, who were armed with AK-47 rifles, began firing on them from a nearby hill.
Along with the injured officers, two people who were among the herders also suffered bullet wounds but their conditions are stable. The attackers were able to get away with all the cattle that was being transported as well as the riffles belonging to the deceased officer.
