Gospel singer and media personality Kambua, together with her husband Jackson Mathu, marked what would have been their son Malachi’s fifth birthday with a heartfelt tribute online.
The couple took to social media on Wednesday, February 11, to honour their late child, who passed away shortly after birth in February 2021. To commemorate the day, they shared a touching photo of a beautifully decorated cake inscribed “Baby MM.”
The elegant cake featured a smooth frosted finish that transitioned from creamy white at the base to shimmering gold at the top. It was adorned with delicate sprigs of baby’s breath flowers both on top and around the base. A gold circular topper with the words “Baby MM” written in graceful script crowned the cake, symbolising love and remembrance.
In her emotional caption, Kambua reflected on the milestone her son would have reached. “You would have been 5 years old today my beautiful boy, Malachi.
Happy birthday, my baby. Keep resting in the arms of Jesus,” she wrote, expressing both a mother’s enduring love and her deep faith.
Jackson Mathu also joined in remembering their son, standing in solidarity with his wife as they quietly celebrated Malachi’s heavenly birthday.
Fans and fellow celebrities flooded Kambua’s page with messages of comfort, encouragement and prayers.
Many praised the couple’s strength and openness in sharing their grief journey, while others offered words of solidarity drawn from their own experiences of loss.
Kambua has previously spoken candidly about the pain of losing Malachi and the difficulty of healing. In addition to his passing, she has endured other child losses, including a miscarriage.
Through it all, she has leaned heavily on her faith, often sharing reflections on hope, healing and trusting God amid heartbreak.
Five years on, Malachi’s memory clearly remains alive in the hearts of his parents, who continue to honour him with love and unwavering devotion.
Mathu, on the other hand, posted the photo without a caption to his Instagram Stories. Kambua’s followers flocked to the comment section to cheer her up, and here are some of their responses: Karwirwalaura: “5 years?
Hugs my sizzy.” wakis_space: “Sending you tight hugs, dear one.” jaymaswai: “When does it get easier how do I move on from my son Lord.”
