Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has expressed his frustration towards Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba over the state of the stalled Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret.
The governor, known for his candid remarks, did not hold back as he criticized the lack of progress in the stadium’s construction.
In a statement that was shared on social media on June 23 by the Standard, the governor demanded that people should be held accountable for not delivering.
“If this stadium is not getting built, then someone should be held accountable,” he said in the viral video.
Construction on the Kipchoge Keino Stadium commenced in 2014, with the laying of the tartan track by engineers.
However, progress has been sporadic, causing concern over Kenya’s ability to host international competitions.
The stadium’s completion is crucial, particularly as Uasin Gishu County prepares to host the eighth Devolution Conference in August.
Governor Bii has urged the national government and relevant ministries to intervene and ensure the facility’s timely completion.
Sports CS Ababu Namwamba also recently expressed dissatisfaction with the state of the Kipchoge Keino Stadium.
During an impromptu visit, he called for an audit of all sports facilities under construction and voiced his disappointment at the slow pace of progress.
Namwamba emphasized the need for immediate rectification of the situation, stating, “The little that has been done is actually worse, and this should be addressed promptly.”
The CS is determined to see the completion of not only the Kipchoge Keino Stadium but also 64 other stadiums in Eldoret.
Governor Jonathan Bii’s strong words reflect the growing frustration among Kenyans who have been eagerly awaiting the completion of the Kipchoge Keino Stadium.
