When the senators began voting on her impeachment case, Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza was in the chambers holding on to her hopes dearly in a sombre mood.
She waited patiently as the the speaker rose to announce the total votes per respective charge – whether the charge had been sustained or squashed by the honorable house.
Immediately, speaker Amason Kingi declared that non of the seven charges had been upheld by the senators consequently reinstating her to office, the governor immediately broke into tears as sign of joy and happiness that her troubles had finally come to an end.
With no handkerchief to wipe off her tears, the besieged governor was forced to remove her vision glasses and cover her face with both hands to wipe the tears.
The tearful celebration did not end here, a group of female elected and non elected leaders accompanied by honourable Moses Kuria were eagerly waiting for her outside.
As soon as she stepped out of the Senate building, they rushed to her in a celebratory mood giving her countless hugs. Overwhelmed with joy, the governor could not help it but respond with wide smiles.
“Gavana ni Maaaamaaa, Kabati Kabati, kaende kaende! ,” the female leaders sang and chanted outside the assembly. The leaders included former legislator Millicent Omanga and Suba Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo.
