Chief Justice Martha Koome has today announced the dismissal of a renowned Senior Judge from the Judicial Service.

Addressing via a statement dated today the 6th day of March 2024, Chief Justice Martha Koome has dismissed Principal Magistrate Hon. Mr. Patrick Wambugu from the Judicial Service Commission with immediate effect.

Giving a glimpse of the fundamental reason behind the strategic decision to dismiss Hon. Mr. Patrick Wambugu from the service, Chief Justice Martha Koome articulated that the principal magistrate has been dismissed due to gross misconduct.

Martha Koome articulated that the Principal Magistrate had altered bond terms that resulted to the heinous release of an accused person who had been charged with the abnoxious defilement of a minor.

“In the discharge of its disciplinary mandate over judicial officers and staff under Article 172 (2) (c) of the Constitution, the commission resolved to dismiss Hon. Mr. Patrick Wambugu from service for gross misconduct. Hon. Mr. Patrick Wambugu was accused of irregularly altering bond terms that resulted in the release of an accused person who had been charged with defilement of a six-year-old minor. The accused person has since jumped bail,” Chief Justice Martha Koome stated.
