Peter Wamiti, a police officer connected with the killing of Karatina businessman George Gathu, is to be detained for seven days to allow probe.

The ruling was issued on February 3, 2026, by Nyeri court.

According to reports, the accused shot and killed the deceased on January 18, 2026 at Rubis Petrol station in Karatina Town.

CCTV footage captured on the fateful day shows two officers in a confrontation with the deceased.

 

The businessman attempted to get away from the officers who chased him. Peter was seen allegedly shooting the deceased from behind.

The two stayed at the scene for a few minutes before leaving as members of the public surrounded the scene.

The scene was visited by senior officers and documented before the body was taken to the mortuary pending autopsy and other procedures.

 

The killer cop was arrested by police. It was reported that the deceased was shot 4 times.

The incident sparked outrage from politicians who called for the arrest and prosecution of the suspects.

Mathira Member of Parliament, Eric Wamumbi, who spoke during the burial of the businessman, said he was not going to rest until he gets justice.

He condemned the brutal murder of the businessman, calling on the court to ensure justice is served .
