Nyandarua County’s gubernatorial contest is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in recent memory.
According to the latest Politrack survey, Governor Francis Kimmia of the Jubilee Party leads the pack with 20.1% of voter support, narrowly ahead of DCP’s Hon. Secilly Kariuki, who sits at 17.4%.
The race is tightly packed beyond the top two, with UDA aspirants Hon. Faith Gitau and HE. Moses Kisrie Badirisha locked in a close battle for third place at 15.8% and 15.6%, respectively.
The combined support for the UDA candidates reaches 31.4%, highlighting the importance of party unity should the nominations stage come into play. Meanwhile, Theuri Kinyanjui Wakili of DCP lingers at 12.1%, showing that even within parties, strong competition is alive.
Politrack’s survey, which sampled 5,151 respondents, also shows that only 3.3% of voters remain undecided.
This indicates that the electorate has largely made up its mind, and the margins separating the leading candidates are razor-thin.
Less than three percentage points divide Governor Kimmia and Kariuki, meaning that every campaign rally, ward visit, and community handshake could tip the scales.
Local analysts say that the Jubilee lead, while slim, reflects Kimmia’s enduring popularity and established political machinery.
His visibility across the county, coupled with grassroots engagement, has kept him slightly ahead of Kariuki, whose campaign is relying heavily on a message of reform and local development.
The dynamics within DCP and UDA also make the race intriguing. With multiple strong aspirants in both parties, internal negotiations and endorsements could redefine the trajectory of the race before nominations.
Unity, or lack thereof within these parties could determine whether their combined support translates into a clear advantage on election day.
As the campaigns heat up, voters in Nyandarua will be watching closely. With margins so tight and the electorate largely decided, every decision by candidates will matter, from how they engage with communities to the promises they deliver on the campaign trail.
Nyandarua’s gubernatorial contest is far from over, but for now, Jubilee holds a narrow edge. The coming weeks will reveal whether that lead is enough to carry Governor Kimmia to another term.
