The Jubilee Party, through their Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, has called on President William Ruto to appoint new Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials, saying there are no legal barriers to prevent the appointments.
Speaking during a press briefing at the party’s headquarters in Nairobi on Friday, Kioni also warned the president against selecting any political leader from Central Kenya to replace Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua if an impeachment occurs.

“Hakuna jambo lolote linamzuia Ruto kuchagua IEBC ni njama ya kuvuruga nchi. We call on the formation of IEBC to ensure all by-elections are done in the country… I caution the members of Parliament as they make their issues in Parliament; let them not make it a community issue,” Kioni said.

The meeting, attended by leaders from the Rift Valley, likewise criticized the ongoing impeachment of DP Gachagua accusing the government of using it to divert attention from the implementation of the controversial Social Health Authority.

“Our hospitals have suffered greatly because of NHIF. We have been misled; there are patients at Uasin Gishu hospitals who have already paid money and are not receiving treatment. I want to urge our president, Ruto, to put aside the impeachment talk first and focus on the citizens who elected you to your position,” Pascaline Kemei, a resident, told Citizen TV.

The leaders added that they want Ruto to address the rising cost of fertilizer in the Rift Valley as well as the closure of numerous hospitals.

“Address the issues affecting the lives of the people because we are suffering on the ground. We ask the government to buy us quality maize because we are struggling. We are planting crops, but we are being sold at very low prices, so we ask the government to take our interests into account on the ground,” they said.
