Kenyans have been the number of subjects reduced in Junior Secondary School as Ministry of Education implements the recommendations by Presidential Working Party on Education. According to the report shared by the local media this hour, on Thursday, 21st December, 2023, the government announced reduction of subjects in Competency Based Curriculum.

According to the report shared the biggest reduction however, is in Junior Secondary School where five subjects have been slashed. Impressively, students in Junior Secondary School will now take only nine learning areas. Ministry indicates that they will have only 40 lessons per week. This means five lessons have been reduced.

Therefore lower primary pupils will have 7 subjects from current 9, those in upper primary have their learning areas reduced from 12 to 8, while those in Junior Secondary will now undertake nine learning areas down from the current 14. Impressively the changes will be effective from next year.
