Johansen Oduor, Kenya’s Chief Government Pathologist, is a well-recognized figure, frequently seen on television when high-profile murder cases arise. Known for handling autopsies and issuing reports on the causes of death, Oduor has gained significant media attention due to the country’s rising cases of femicide and contentious murders.

However, not many are aware of his intriguing past as a rapper. In a recent interview with NTV Kenya, Oduor shared that he was once known as “Mr. Bombastic” during his university years at the University of Nairobi School of Medicine. His passion for music was evident in his early campus days, but his career path eventually took a different turn.

Oduor, born in Pumwani Hospital and raised in Nairobi’s Eastlands, chose to become a doctor due to the healthcare challenges he witnessed in his community. Initially, he had no interest in pathology, but a surprise posting by the Ministry of Health to a city mortuary changed his trajectory. Despite considering quitting on his first day, he decided to stay, motivated by a desire to assist those from underprivileged areas similar to his own.

His dedication and exceptional work led him to his current position as Chief Government Pathologist. Oduor has handled some of the most challenging cases, including the murder of Rita Waeni and the Shakahola deaths, which required extensive on-site work.

Despite his extensive experience with death, Oduor admits to a personal fear of the unknown aspects of death. In his downtime, he enjoys reading and watching movies, reflecting his diverse interests beyond his professional role.
