Actors in the transport industry have come out to decry the new fuel prices as announced by Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
Speaking from different corners of the country, drivers and motorcycle riders have castigated president William Ruto, accusing him of allowing the prices of the rare commodity to increase within a short period of time.
“We can now see it is the bottom up as you promised. Prices of commodities are moving from bottom to up,” stated one of the driver in Kisumu.
Drivers in Kisumu county have also threatened to stage demonstrations in order to force government to reduce the fuel prices.
In other places like Meru, Nakuru and Kitale, Matatu operators have resulted in hiking fare prices following these new prices.
In a press release issued on Thursday night, EPRA revealed that the price of Super Petrol will surge by Ksh 16.96 per litre, Diesel will see an uptick of Ksh 21.32, and Kerosene will bear the brunt of the hike with an increase of Ksh 33.13 per litre.
EPRA’s Director General, Daniel Kiptoo Bargoria, attributed the price hike to the weighted average cost of imported refined petroleum products. Consequently, the revised prices will translate to Super Petrol costing Ksh 211.64 per litre in Nairobi, Diesel at Ksh 200.99, and Kerosene at Ksh 202.61.
