Media personality Isabella Kituri got emotional talking about the death of her late husband 16 years ago.
In an interview with Grace Msalame on Unscripted on NTV, Isabella revealed unknown details of how her late husband died, and the moment it hit her he was dead.
She lost her spouse to colon cancer in 2005, a year after their marriage. He was ailing at the time.
” So we had just left maternity. I had just given birth and he had taken up a higher accounting course it was quite stressful for him with work that new course and a new baby in the house. He had this recurring ulcer issue so this time it really got worse. So I told him you know what let’s look for a specialist, let’s go to a hospital, let’s stop going to these clinics. Went, checks were done and went home, but it got worse. I knew it was worse because it was eating him, he could eat very little food, and at some point I started cooking steamed cabbage just so that was all he could eat and very little. He couldn’t eat anything else, he would just say it can’t pass my throat I think I have a sore throat a serious sore throat. Little did I know the inside of his intestines had completely infected with the cancer”
The couple sought the advice of another doctor but this didn’t help as the diagnosis was bad.
“He actually didn’t leave the hospital because he wasn’t eating and he had started losing weight so they called me aside they started telling me so we want to break the news to your husband that he is very sick we are giving him days to live as his stomach is completely finished. I mean I was in shock this was a few weeks after delivery so I took it in my stride. I was like let’s do this, let’s move on let’s take it one day at a time because i mean not all of us can start crying, somebody has to strong. I thought it was a cloud that would pass, unfortunately it’s a cloud that would hang and that three months, July August September, three months we were in hospital”
A terrifying moment happened the following month
“The first week of October I get a call in the morning from the nurse. Usually I go to hospital early in the morning, but on this particular day I got delayed for some reason I couldn’t leave the house early. So she told me to urgently go to the hospital.
So when I got to the hospital, there were so many people around my husband, there was so much activity, the machines as in it was like an ambulance scene in the movies, like the way you see when you watch ER. I was like why is there pulp in his mouth and I’m trying to talk to him but the doctor is telling me that he can hear you but we don’t think he can understand you because he is going, and I was like going where? So I also see my office colleagues so early in the morning, I mean they are supposed to be in the newsroom planning for the day, I see my bosses, I see my family, my in laws. Then my Boss Farida was encouraging me and at this point I’m still thinking my husband is coming out of it, then I hear somebody scream- my mother in law and she screams and she leaves and a group of people go with her. So I ask the doctor what’s happening, and he says we have tried and you see I don’t know if I heard it. I wanted to clean my husband like I always do when I go to hospital early in the morning, because when I normally used to go the nurse would do it but she would help her because he would say like there are places I need my wife to do this.”ElVyPdeXIAEE0q6
Then this guys comes with a big pan and I think he also wants to wash him, it hasn’t registered he is dead ok the doctor had told me he is gone but he couldn’t switch off the machine because of the way I was behaving . So I continued cleaning my husband, then I started thinking why is there blood coming from his ears? Why is there spill in the mouth. So I think the last straw for me was this guy from the morgue when he told me mum, I am sorry have you heard us he is gone.
Weuh it didn’t register. So they put him in the pan they covered him. They wheeled him out, we go to the morgue and he asks if I want to come in, I enter the morgue, then I tell him aki it’s so cold. He says yeah it has to be cold for us to preserve when people die, that’s when I just started screaming, shedding tears then they locked the door that’s when I knew”
