The urgent need replace the vacant Ministry of Interior slot that had been left by Prof Kithure Kindiki after he was elevated to serve as the Deputy President of the republic of Kenya, gave the Father of the Nation President William Ruto, the chance to change the outlook of his Cabinet.
As a result of the sweeping changes Ruto had to do, one of the casualties that was kicked out of Cabinet was Dr Andrew Karanja, who had held the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development docket for less than five months, before he was demoted to serve as Kenya’s Ambassador to Brazil.
Hours after the the changes were made, it has now been disclosed to the public why Andrew Karanja had to be a victim of President Ruto’s Cabinet axe, that left many political circles buzzing.
According to the source, the People’s Daily magazine journalists who held exclusive interviews with well placed sources at Ruto’s State House residence, were told that majority of the Members of Parliament (MPs) hailing from Mt Kenya region led by Kikuyu Constituency (MP) Hon Kimani Ichung’wah and his counterpart of Gatundu South MP Gabriel Kagombe, pushed for the demotion of Dr Karanja.
As per the source, the two vocal Mt Kenya heavyweights aired their opinion to President William Ruto, that Dr Andrew Karanja was not influential and that they had “never heard of him” before.
MP Ichung’wah and Gabriel Kagombe further argued that Dr Karanja was not capable of blocking Rigathi Gachagua’s growing popularity in Mt Kenya region, and his political stature was not enough to counter or nullify the discontent in the vote-rich Mt Kenya, which was occasioned by the unceremonious ouster of Hon Rigathi Gachagua from office.
As a result, they urged President Ruto, to replace him with a more powerful personality such as former Kiambu county governor Wilfred Kabogo, who as per their opinion, had the political muscle to counter Gachagua’s Mt Kenya effect.
To create room for the inclusion of Kabogo into the government, Andrew Karanja had to be sacrificed and a reshuffle had to be done, to include other allies to retired Head of State President Uhuru Kenyatta including former Nakuru county Governor Lee Kinyanjui and Mutahi Kagwe former CS for Health.
From the interview, the journalists further discovered that Andrew Karanja, had been been fronted to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development docket by incumbent Nakuru county boss Susan Kihika who pleaded on his behalf, after the sacking of former CS Zack Njeru who also hailed from Nakuru region.
