A motion to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been prepared and is ready to be presented in Parliament. However, despite the motion being ready, no Member of Parliament has yet stepped forward to officially introduce it.
According to a report by NTV, the motion outlines several serious charges against the deputy president. These include violations of the constitution, breaches of legal provisions, gross misconduct, and abuse of office.
Some Members of Parliament have also expressed concerns about Gachagua’s controversial remarks regarding the Mt. Kenya region’s share in the Kenya Kwanza government. He is accused of promoting divisive politics, which has caused tension within the country.
In addition to these accusations, the deputy president is alleged to have violated the Official Secrets Act, a law that governs the handling of sensitive government information. Furthermore, he is accused of undermining the collective responsibility of the Cabinet, a principle that requires all members of the Cabinet to present a united front on government decisions.
As the motion awaits a Member of Parliament to take it forward, it remains to be seen whether the impeachment process will move forward in Parliament.
