The ODM boss Raila Odinga issued a strong statement to the international media over the current situation in Kenya whereby he accused the government of using excessive force against harmless Kenyans during the past Maandamano events.
Baba maintained that the opposition camp has been collecting and documenting evidence which shall be presented to the ICC to prosecute the police officers and their bosses who engaged in inhumane atrocities against Kenyans who were exercising their democratic rights.
“The shots have been aimed at the vital organs and delicate parts of the victims like the stomach, the spine, the heart, the chest and the head. All the victims have been unarmed,” Raila Odinga spoke on the excesses of the police and unfortunate shooting incidents.
“These protests were about cost of living and excessive taxation and they will continue as such. But we are now forced to deal with the question of policing in a supposedly democratic state like Kenya. Police being deployed to break the protests have failed to act in accordance with the Constitution and the law,” he added.
However, the Police IG Japhet Koome has remained mum over reports of police brutality that have been condemned by various agencies. His deafening silence raised eyebrows from Kenyans as he maintains a low profile.
