Azimio leader Raila Odinga has declared that if the Finance Bill 2023-24 is passed and it is controversial or unpopular, he will lead weekly mass protests against President William Ruto.

Addressing Azimio la Umoja leaders at Chungwa House in Kisii on Wednesday, Raila said, “Wakipitisha Finance bill hii, tutapiga parapanda,” (loosely translated to “if they pass the Finance Bill, we will blow the last trumpet”).

The Opposition leader threatened the return of maandamano (protests) if the Opposition demands are not met. Raila Odinga urged Azimio la Umoja members of parliament to not vote for the Finance Bill.

Raila Odinga’s warning comes at a time when the country is grappling with multiple challenges including economic hardships and the controversial Finance Bill 2023.

The political landscape took a tense turn on Wednesday as the Opposition leader Raila Odinga issued a strong warning, hinting at the potential return of protests if the demands of the Opposition are not met.
