In a new viral interview, Ben Affleck has said he would still be drinking if he was still married to his now ex-wife Jennifer Garner. The couple parted ways in 2018.
Appearing on The Howard Stern Show, Affleck said the many lows he went through in his marriage were what led him to calling it quits.
The father of three explained in detail the reason why he chose to stay in their 10-year marriage even though all was already lost.
“I was like, ‘I can’t leave because of my kids, but I’m not happy, what do I do?’ And what I did was drink a bottle of scotch and fell asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution,” he said.
“The truth was, we took our time, we made a decision, we grew apart. We had a marriage that did not work. This happens. It is somebody I love and respect, but to whom I should not be married any longer,” he further continued.
The two-time Oscar winner who went into rehab in 2018 comment that he’d still be drinking if he was still married to ‘Alias’ star Jennifer Garner rubbed some Twitter users the wrong way.
“You blame your ex-wife for drinking? You were a drunk before you married her!”wrote out one impassioned Twitter user, with several others asking him to take ‘responsibility’ for his own actions.
“Speaking poorly about the mother of your children pretty much makes to [sic] a terrible father and a total d*head!” “BenAffleck sounds like your blaming your ex-wife for your drinking! Smbag!”
“BenAffleck is unlikeable. Don’t blame your ex-wife for your issues,” read one aggressive tweet, while another angered fan called the statement a ‘cheap shot.’
As for his current relationship with Jennifer Lopez, Affleck said he was hesitant to give it a second try adding that he had doubts about rekindling their romance.

“It crossed my mind for sure. My responsibility to my children is the highest responsibility. I don’t want to do anything that is painful or destructive to them if I can help it.”
He admitted that he was cautious about getting back with the singer-turned-actress after saying a lot of what destroyed their relationship in the first place was the strain caused by so much negative attention.
“I would say it was about 50 percent [of what destroyed our relationship]. The idea that people hate you and they hate you together and that being together is poison and ugly and toxic and the thing none of us want to be part of,” he said
