Some hours ago popular Kikuyu musician and music writer Maina Kangoma came out to share his struggles, revealing that he has been suffering despite his significant contributions to the music industry. Maina, who has written music for numerous Kikuyu secular musicians, including Samidoh, Joyce Wa Mama, and Wanja Asali expressed his disappointment and frustration, for being forgotten by the very artists he helped and make popular.

The news sparked a wave of sympathy and outrage among Kenyans, with many taking to social media to express their support for Maina. One notable figure who weighed in on the conversation was Njogu Wa Njoroge, a respected figure in the Kikuyu music scene.

In response to a Facebook post by Karangu Muraya, who asked “Who is this man?” in reference to Maina Ka Ngoma, Njogu Wa Njoroge shared his own encounter with the struggling music writer.

According to Njogu, he met Maina Ka Ngoma when he was a vocalist backup artist for the late popular Kikuyu benga musician Sam Kinuthia. While Njogu acknowledged that he didn’t know Maina’s full story, he expressed his willingness to do anything to help him get back on his feet.

Njogu’s comments have been met with widespread appreciation, with many praising his kind gesture and willingness to support a fellow artist in need. The move has also sparked a wider conversation about the importance of recognizing and rewarding the contributions of behind-the-scenes creatives like Maina Ka Ngoma. What is your view on this?
