Just like what Julie Gichuru said a couple of days ago, back then, there was no way you would follow your dream if it did not make financial sense to your parents.
That is why she abandoned her passion and followed a career path that would sustain her financially.
In The Morning Kiss with Kamene and Jalas, Kamene opened up saying that it was hard for her to chose to study what she had a passion for.
“Imagine at the age of 16 preparing to start applying to study in university. Do you think I would have told engineer(her father) I want to go study community development? I’d have been slapped. They want to hear law, engineeringā€¦
As a young person, it is hard to convince your parents you want to do let us call them divergent degrees. I wanted to study broadcast journalism I was shut quick fast and in a hurry and I was told that is not a good first degree. If you want to that, pale mbele but starting off you will do law.” Kamene narrated
Adding that those she shared a class when studying law had to go above and beyond to try to make financial sense out of their lives.
“All the guys in my class, those who managed to progress are those who opened their firms and started fighting with the big wigs for the big cases because there were no jobs. For your life to make financial sense in law, you have to put in a solid 20 years. It is difficult. There are people who have spent 6 years doing architecture and now they are drawing cartoons at home.
You tell us education is key we will study and then what?” She said
It is the harsh reality of life. Remember the lady who was crying out that she has a degree, well educated but no job? And when she tried to make ends meet by starting a business, she was stopped by the amount of money she needed to pay the government to just start.
