Many Kenyans are optimistic of greener pasture out of the country, the reason majority of youths are seeking passports. However, one man who has lived in Canada for over 20 years has offered a different perspective about life in Canada and abroad in general.
In one of the posts in X (formerly Twitter), the man when asked what he regret in life, said that he regrets coming to Canada. He went ahead and narrated that he would have been much better if he had stayed in his home country because 20 years working in Canada is equals to paying rent and mother else.
The Carribbean man added that working for 7 years in his home country is enough for him to buy 2 properties in Canada.
“I regret coming to Canada because if I would have stayed in the Carribbean, I would have been better. I came to Canada and I worked I don’t know maybe for 20 years and I had to go back to my country. 7 years in my country gives me enough money to buy 2 properties in Canada in cash. 20 years just here (Canada) paying rent and nothing, it tells me Canada is just a trap.” The Carribbean man said.
He went ahead and sympathised with those who are coming to Canada for the first time saying if it is hard for him who owns a property, how hard can it be for a first year. He stated that as a starter in Canada you will die earlier because of stress whereas in your home country you could have lived for more than 40 or 50 years.
He added that those who are living in home countries have a better life than those in Canada saying that going to Canada will only get things more harder.
“I own a property and it is hard for me imagine people from different countries for their first years and you are wasting time, you are stressing yourself, you are going to go crazy and you are going to to die in less than 10 years when in your country which would have been harder, you live for another 40 or 50 years.”
“No matter how bad it is in your country it is going to get worse here, I am telling the truth. Idea of Canada is to get out of Canada and not in it and I have realized that between America and Canada, the people who are living back in their country are living better than us who are living over here.”
