Some hours ago Kikuyu gospel musician Phyllis Mbuthia was in an interview with Lynn Ngugi where she talked about her life and how she ended up being successful, despite being raised up by a poor single mother. According to her, she was born and raised in Bahati constituency, Nakuru county as a fourth born in a family of five children. Her father died when she was still young, but the parents had already divorced.
Their mother took them to school, since she was a great believer of education and when she was in class seven she was sponsored to go to a boarding school. Unfortunately she was always the last student and she started working hard after mathematic teacher harassed her. She worked very hard and she was always leading in church matters, having a covenant with God to help her pass her examinations.
After doing her mock examinations, she was number one and in her KCPE exams she passed very well. Unfortunately her mother could not take her to secondary school and she didn’t loss hope. She was employed to work in a house and her boss was very devastated to realize she had passed her exams. She sponsored her to join secondary school and she was very happy. From there her mother was to struggle and keep her in school onward.
She passed her KCSE exam and joined Kenyatta university where her music career was born. One day when sleeping a song came to her mind and she wrote it down. She recorded her audio and that was the song which went viral making her life change for good. When she was almost doing her final examinations the song became a hit and it had stayed dormant for two years. She started marking more than one hundred thousand in a day.
In a month the song gave her three million. She bought her mother land and constructed her a very big house.
