Robby Mukonjere, a Kenyan woman, has opened up about the devastating consequences of her decision to assault her husband’s side chick after discovering their affair.
Mukonjere had built a promising career in the hospitality industry despite her limited education. After dropping out of school due to financial difficulties, she worked her way up from modest hotel jobs to the role of hotel manager.
Her hard work and perseverance made her a self-reliant woman, enabling her to purchase land and furnish her home independently.
Things changed when she met the man who would later become her husband. Out of love and trust, she sold her property, moved in with him, and fully embraced his two sons as her own.
Together, they also had a child, forming what she believed was a loving family.
However, cracks began to appear in their relationship when her husband started lying about his whereabouts, claiming to be on work trips but instead spending time with another woman.
Robby’s suspicions were confirmed when a hotel receipt and a tip-off from a friend revealed the truth.
Fueled by anger and betrayal, she confronted them at a bar. Her husband fled the scene, leaving behind his shoes, while Robby turned her rage on his mistress, beating her severely enough to require hospitalization.
This single act of violence drastically altered her life. Robby was arrested and charged with assault. Her case, handled in Nairobi despite her living in Western Kenya, required her to travel frequently for hearings.
The victim’s family pushed for harsh punishment, and Robby was ultimately sentenced to five years at Lang’ata Women’s Prison.
While in prison, her world fell apart. Her husband never visited her, nor did he support their children, leaving them to fend for themselves. Adding to her challenges, Robby was diagnosed as HIV-positive, a discovery that left her deeply depressed.
