Some hours ago Kikuyu journalist Monica Kagoni interviewed Kikuyu gospel musician Edith Wairimu who talked about herself fir the first time on media. According to her, she was born in Mombasa but they later moved to her ancestral home and her mother got a job opportunity to go and work in USA. She started planning to leave the country but unfortunately she was not given work permit which forced her to come back home with nothing.
That was the time Edith was joining school and she sold everything but she could not be able to raise school fees. Her grandmother who is a cousin to their real grandmother paid her first fee of 12,000 and the mother had to find the rest of the money. After sometime her mother sold a cow to make her continue with her education which angered her grandmother and they were thrown out. They moved to the streets and that was when they met a woman who gave them a house.
That was how they ended in up slums and the mother started hustling for them to have basic needs such as food. As a result of that she was diagnosed with clinical depression and she started wetting in bed, started talking to herself and she was living alone. She was treated but in form two she now became suicidal and she tried killing herself but by God’s grace she is alive today.
One teacher realized she had a problem and she was taken to a psychologist and that was how her problems ended. She did her form four exams and she passed very well and she was called to join Maseno university. She realized she can sing when she was a young child but when she went to campus she stopped singing when she realized everyone was after her worship and not God.
She was later signed in by a music label and she started singing before they parted ways because if terms and conditions. She started her YouTube channel from scratches and she released an English song which didn’t go viral. During COVID 19 period they formed a band with youths from different church and they released a worship song which went viral. Within a day she was very popular and she came to the limelight that easy.
Later she was attacked very much for singing other people’s songs and she had to pray for God to give her a revalation so that she could write her own songs. She released the first song which became very popular among christians. After sometime she went through a very hard situation where she was accused of abusing an 82 years old man which made her loose everything she had made in five years within a day and she started from scratches again.
