Gideon Kipkorir, a musician from Nakuru County, composed a song praising President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza coalition two years ago. His song, titled “Kenya Kwanza,” gained significant popularity among President Ruto’s supporters and young people across the country.

Kipkorir, who once lived as a street child, created the song to showcase his talent and earn a livelihood. However, the situation has since taken a turn, and the song that once brought him recognition is now causing him trouble. Due to ongoing anti-government protests, Kipkorir has faced threats and ridicule from some youths who feel that he is praising President Ruto during a difficult economic period.

Living in fear, Kipkorir has decided to abandon his bodaboda business due to the attacks he has encountered. He explained that he never imagined his song would put his life in danger, and now he is afraid to even leave his home to look for odd jobs. The once-patriotic gesture has turned into a source of anxiety and danger for the artist.
