Savara launched his album, ‘Savage Levels’ this past week and was interviewed by Mpasho.co.ke.
While going through the album list, the muscled singer explained his reason for writing the song, ‘Anxiety’ saying it was based on his own personal experiences.
“It was very personal for me. People started dying around me. People were closing themselves in. I have also had moments in my life where I have been so anxious. Even as I was recording this album, there were moments when I was so anxious.”
He added that the album had taken him to scary places within himself.
“And I used to go deep and lock myself away. Recording a personal album like this you have to go deep. There were things I discovered about myself that I didn’t even imagine, that were making me super-anxious.”
What were some of the things he had learnt that had made him apprehensive?
“Just getting to know yourself even more. Just deep stuff like things that you’re addicted to that aren’t even drugs…Like social media.”
He added that the song was an encouragement for people to go through anxious moments, saying that it was alright for men to cry.
“It is O.K for a man to cry. Me, I cry. I advocate for every man to cry. That thing of not crying is toxic masculinity, take it back to your rural home!”
He went on to explain how crying is something he does a lot.
“Even when I get on stage and a song gets me, I cry…sometimes even when I am at home, I will even cry when I hear these songs. I even cried just now (during the album launch) when I was talking about Yvonne and how she’s my rock.”
