Locals in Witeithie area of Juja, Kiambu are grappling with attacks from wildlife.
Confirming the attacks, DCI warned residents to exercise caution over horrific attacks after a 29-year-old man was mauled to death by the cackle of about 20 hyenas within Kamuthi area on his way home from Komu quarry.

The DCI wishes to caution members of the public living in Witeithie area of Juja, Kiambu County of a roaming Cackle of Hyenas that is already causing deadly attacks on the residents.

Dci also added that ‘Service, Kenya Wildlife Service and other local law enforcement agencies has been dispatched to handle the dangerous predators and prevent further attacks on people, we urge locals to remain cautious. This caution follows a sad incident reported to police at 5am today of a 29-year-old man who was mauled to death by the cackle of about 20 hyenas within Kamuthi area on his way home from Komu quarry. Here is the advice KWS has on avoiding hyena attacks.
Don’t lie down and pretend you are dead. this only makes the animal more curious.
Keep yourself calm by talking to it. Don’t show it fear.
Don’t move away until the hyena does. And when you do move, keep facing its direction.
Make a loud noise, look aggressive and frightening as if you are going to attack.
