The prominent social media blogger and lawyer Wahome Thuku has revealed a case involving a female police officer stationed at Kamukunji Police Station in Nairobi and another man. Thuku has accused the officer for orchestrating a fraudulent transaction, leaving the unidentified man in a difficult situation.
According to Thuku’s expose, the officer, whose identity remains undisclosed for now, allegedly sold a Subaru Forester to an unsuspecting buyer. The transaction, which took place on September 7th last year, amounted to Ksh1,640,000. However, the vehicle had an outstanding loan at Cooperative Bank, with the logbook held as collateral.
The unfortunate incident happened when the man accompanied by a witness and the officer, visited Cooperative Bank at University Way branch to conduct the transaction.
The buyer is reported to have transferred the agreed-upon amount from their KCB account to the officer’s Equity Account, under the watchful eye of a Cooperative Bank credit officer. Subsequently, the officer transferred the funds to the Cooperative Bank Account, seemingly to clear the loan.
However, the situation took a different turn when the officer allegedly withdrew the entire sum from the Cooperative Bank Account without settling the loan. This left the buyer in possession of the car but without the logbook, as the bank now seeks to repossess the vehicle.
What has made this situation worse is that the vehicle’s insurance has expired, and he can’t renew without the logbook. The buyer tried to confront her over the matter but the officer allegedly dismissed the buyer’s concerns, claiming to have utilized the funds for personal reasons, specifically to stock her wines and spirits shop.
Thuku claims that he got reports from sources within the police force stating that the officer enjoys protection within the police service.
He stated that the complainant has lodged a formal complaint with the Central Police Station’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). However, as evident in Thuku’s statement, he had doubts regarding the likelihood of a successful resolution, considering the officer’s purported influence and connections within the police.
