He will go down history lane as the shortest serving Kenya Navy Commander after being in office for only one month.

In March 2024, the profile of Major General Thomas Ng’ang’a was elevated when he climbed military ranks and appointed as Kenya Navy Commander in the changes made by President William Ruto.

Prior to his appointment, the then Brigadier Ng’ang’a served as Manda Navy Base Commander. But things would change for him when he was appointed to succeed the now Lieutenant General Jimson Mutai as Kenya Navy boss .

But on Thursday May 2, 2024, in the military changes made by President William Ruto two weeks after the death of Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla in a helicopter crash, Major General Thomas Ng’ang’a became one of the biggest casualties of the KDF top command shakeup.

In the changes that saw General Kahariri appointed as the new CDF, Major General Ng’ang’a was literally demoted after swapping positions with former Kenya Shipyards Limited Director, Major General Paul Owuor Otieno.

And now, Major General Otieno is the boss at Kenya Navy headquarters. As for Major General Ng’ang’a, he must have been disappointed by the Commander-in-chief.
