Kikuyu singer Gachati Wa Thuo is going through a very hard time.
The veteran artist has asked Kenyans to help him pay a debt that is now threatening his life and his property.
On Monday December 8 Gachati shared his problem with well-known philanthropist Karangu Muraya.
Karangu later explained that Gachati’s car had already been auctioned by the bank. The car was sold because he failed to pay a loan.
Losing the car was painful. But Gachati fears something worse. His home and an acre of land might also be auctioned next. This has left him worried and stressed.
Karangu said Gachati’s troubles started after he got saved. The singer left secular music and began doing gospel music.
The new path made it hard for him to earn the same amount of money he used to make. Shows reduced, income went down, and life became difficult.
Gachati tried to manage the little he had, but the debts kept growing.
He kept quiet for a long time, hoping things would change. When his car was taken, he realized he could no longer hide his struggles.
Karangu posted his story online. Kenyans reacted with love and support.
Many people sent their contributions during an instant fundraiser. They said Gachati had helped them through his music and now it was their turn to help him.
Supporters encouraged him to stay strong and trust that things will get better.
They prayed that the money raised would help him pay the loan and prevent his home from being taken.
Gachati thanked everyone who stood with him. He said he did not expect to face such a hard moment in life but believes God will guide him through the storm.
The fundraiser is still going on and many Kenyans hope Gachati will overcome this difficult season and return to a peaceful and stable life.
