Actress Winnie Bwire’s death was announced by her family on September 5, 2024. She was undergoing treatment in Turkey when she succumbed to the illness.

The family shared their grief in a statement that was made public by media personality Lulu Hassan.

“It is with a heavy heart and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce Winfred Bwire Ndubi lost her battle with Cancer on 5th September 2024 while undergoing treatment in Turkey.

“We thank you all for your overwhelming support, prayers, and generous giving during her treatment. We will share more details in due course. God bless you all,” the statement read.

She has been raising awareness about breast cancer and even had a foundation.

Here is how she found out about her medical condition.

She was diagnosed with a form of cancer called DCIS (Ductal carcinoma in situ)

Bwire kept experiencing swelling in her armpits and was given medication for swollen Lymph Nodes.

The pain would disappear after her period ended.

“After three months my periods could come and go with the pain, but on my third period I felt the pain in my armpits linger even after my period had gone,” she ever told.

A visit to a gynecologist led to a recommendation that she seek additional screening.

“After a biopsy, I was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a rare type of cancer that involves the presence of abnormal cells in a milk duct in the breast,” she said in a previous interview.

She started the journey of treatment.

She underwent eight rounds of chemotherapy, with the effects taking a toll on her from memory loss to hair loss, night blindness”

In August this year, she told Lynn Ngugi about the cost of treatment.

“Where NHIF could not, the family came in. coz the current stage I am in is called target therapy.

“It is a crime to be sick in this country. because the medication is so expensive,” she noted.

Every 21 days I require one hundred thousand. I take tablets, it has seen me through treatments, and the top-ups have been manageable”

Unfortunately, she lost the battle to cancer. May her soul rest in peace.
