Until July 2021, little was known about Caroline Kangogo, a police officer based at Nakuru Central Police Station.

But the cop would soon hit the headlines for the better part of July 2021 until her lifeless body was discovered at the home of her parents in Elgeyo Marakwet County. Apparently, she had taken her own life agree two weeks of drama.

Kangogo first hit the headline when she shot dead a colleague in Nakuru. It is alleged that he was in a love relationship with the slain policeman. After the Nakuru incident, she escaped police dragnet and ended up in Juja, Kiambu County.

There, she met with another alleged lover. Just as she had done in Nakuru, she shot dead the unsuspecting man.

Meanwhile, police launched a manhunt for the killer cop who had become a threat even as Kenyans held their breath.

The fugitive police corporal literally ran berserk even as she engaged fellow police officers in a cat and mouse game.

Signals on her mobile phone could spot her at different locations across the country. But arresting her had proved very futile.

Feelings threatened and her safety not guaranteed any more, two weeks after the first killing incident in Nakuru, Kangogo’s body was discovered in her parents home with a gunshot wound. Apparently, she decided to shoot herself dead rather than face the criminal justice system. She was 34 years old.

Her final send-off was devoid of the police service rituals which are always performed for a deceased officer. For her, she never deserved the privilege as she took her own life.

But questions have always been raised on whether the former corporal killed herself with many raising doubts on the “theory” that was advanced.
