When Yussef Hussein Ahmed’s body was found in Lake Yahud, the tragic case of the Wajir Member of the County Assembly (MCA), who had been missing for more than a month, took a dark turn.

When the MCA’s family identified his body, they were appalled to discover him badly disfigured, with his hands and nose cut off and his eyes gouged out.On September 13, Ahmed, the minority leader of the Wajir County Assembly, vanished.

Weeks had passed with no results from the desperate search for the MCA until his body was found.Another lawmaker, Idris Bulle Mohamed, verified the sad news and offered the bereaved family his condolences.

Despite Ahmed’s terrible physical state, the family recognized his missing finger as a distinguishing feature that helped with identification.

He had reportedly been kidnapped by armed attackers in a taxi on Enterprise Road the night before he vanished, not long after departing South Carolina. To avoid being tracked, the attackers confiscated the cab driver’s phone during the kidnapping.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) needed the phone to piece together the events surrounding the kidnapping, but the cab driver was able to retrieve it.

Ahmed’s family filed a petition after the kidnapping, requesting that the Inspector General of Police provide an explanation for their missing relative. The DCI and the Inspector General were named as respondents in the September filing.

False reports about Ahmed’s wellbeing surfaced just days after the kidnapping, which made the inquiry even more difficult.

In order to shed light on the circumstances behind Ahmed’s disappearance and highlight the necessity of locating the missing MCA, the High Court had already called the Inspector General of Police.
