The days when celebrities were often seen as uneducated or morally loose are long gone. A new wave of Kenyan entertainers, who have excelled academically, particularly in law, is taking over the entertainment scene and building successful careers.
In this article, we highlight a group of female celebrities who have transitioned from law to the limelight.
Corazon Kwamboka
Corazon Kwamboka is a well-known socialite, content creator, and influencer, boasting over 864,000 Instagram followers and 27,000 YouTube subscribers. She is also a trained lawyer and an advocate of the High Court of Kenya. After completing her secondary education at Lwak Girls High School, Corazon pursued a law degree at the University of Nairobi (UoN), Parklands Law Campus, graduating in 2013 with Second Class Honors, Upper Division. She furthered her legal education at the Kenya School of Law (KSL) and was admitted to the Kenyan Bar as an advocate in 2016.
Maureen Waititu
Maureen Waititu is another prominent content creator with over 650,000 Instagram followers and 63,000 YouTube subscribers. After completing her KCSE, she attended Kenyatta University, where she earned a law degree in 2014. Maureen then proceeded to the Kenya School of Law, and began her legal career as a trainee at LJA Associates. She later took a break from practicing law to focus on raising her child, which unexpectedly led her to internet fame. She has since shifted her focus to being a TV host, YouTuber, and content creator.
Maureen Kunga
Maureen Kunga is a Kenyan musician and YouTuber, best known as a member of the popular band Elani. She has over 276,000 Instagram followers and 27,000 YouTube subscribers. Alongside her music and content creation career, Maureen holds a law degree from the University of Nairobi. She also attended the Kenya School of Law and was admitted to the bar on May 4, 2016, officially becoming an advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
Tabitha Gichere
Known in the entertainment industry as DJ Tabz, Tabitha Gichere is a gospel DJ, MC, and influencer with over 131,000 Instagram followers. In addition to her achievements in entertainment, Tabitha is a law graduate from the University of Nairobi. She joined the Kenya School of Law in 2012 and was admitted to the bar in March 2018, making her an advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
Makena Muriuki
Britney Makena Muriuki is a rising star in the world of content creation, with nearly 10,000 YouTube subscribers and 5,000 Instagram followers. Besides her success online, Makena is in her final year at the University of Nairobi, where she is pursuing a law degree.
