A man who attempted to rob a businessman using a fake pistol has denied the charges at a Kibera court.
Stephen Kalonzo denied the charges before Kibera senior principal magistrate Phillip Mutua and pleaded lenient bond terms.
The charge sheet says that he committed the offence on August 29 with others, not before the court.
In the second count, they were accused of possession of a firearm on the same day contrary to the law thus it is said that they had intentions of committing a felony.
According to the police, the accused person while armed with a homemade gun with others attempted to rob Onesmus Mirigu of his shop goods at Amboseli area within Dagoretti in Nairobi by threatening to use actual violence.
Reportedly, the complainant, who is a shopkeeper, was closing his business around 10 pm when the men ordered him to surrender.
However, it is said that the complainant defended himself, injuring one of the men forcing one of them to pull out a homemade gun as they fled from the scene.
It is stated that one of the accomplices shot at the complainant but missed him and days later Mirigu spotted one of the suspects and alerted the police who arrived and arrested the accused Stephen Kalonzo.
Police said upon searching the accused, they found him in possession of a homemade gun capable of firing around his waist. He was released on a Sh500,000 bond with the surety of the same month.
The case will be mentioned later this month.
