Edi Gathegi, a Kenyan-American film, stage and TV actor, is home for the holidays.
The star who was born in airobi before he relocated to the states is home to visit his famly.
Edi has appeared as recurring character Dr Jeffrey Cole (aka “Big Love”) in the TV series House MD, as Laurent in the Twilight films, and as Darwin in X-Men: First Class.
He’s has also been a recurring character in NBC’s television series, The Blacklist, as Matias Solomon, an operative for a covert organisation. Edi reprises the role in the 2016–17 season crime thriller, The Blacklist: Redemption.
Last year, Kenyans on Twitter were posting appreciation messages on social media, and Edi was one of the stars appreciated on numerous threads.
Edi thanked his Kenyan fans who have just “discovered him”. He tweeted: “#Kenyan fans discovering me & going hard. I appreciate you all. Thanks for the support.”

According to Wikipedia, Edi was born in Nairobi and grew up in Albany, California. As an undeclared undergraduate at the University of California, Santa Barbara, he was more interested in playing basketball and was good at it, until he injured his knee. This plunged him into depression, so he took up an acting class as an “easy course”. This is how he discovered his love for acting.

His Laurent character, who sports bulky dreadlocks in the popular money-minting movie Twilight, has been turned into a superhero doll. Designed by Robert Tonner Doll company, the Laurent doll is 17 inches.
