HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that attacks the body’s immune system. If HIV is not treated, it can lead to AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). According to the report from scientific research, there is currently no effective cure. Once people get HIV, they have it for life.

According to the report, with proper medical care, HIV can be controlled and people with HIV who get effective HIV treatment can live long, healthy lives and protect their partners. According to the report by the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council (NSDCC), nine counties in Kenya have recorded an increase in HIV infections.

According to the report, Mombasa is the leading county with a 4.6 percent increase, Samburu recorded a 4.3 percent, and Vihiga and Uasin Gishu Counties also recorded an increase of 4.2 and 3.7 percent respectively. Kenyans have been asked to use protection when having intercourse with their spouses and visit the VCT now and then.
