According to the source, Samuel Mbutu’s wife received calls and text messages from strangers using her husband’s phone to make demands. The deceased family also revealed that prior to his missing, he had attended a funeral at a student’s home in Vihiga county on February 16th. He would then travel to Kisumu as he had planned his journey back to Nairobi, specifically to his home in Kariobangi south where the wife and two children awaited him. Sources also revealed that he boarded a matatu but the journey was delayed as the PSV developed some mechanical problems.
The callers were demanding cash from his wife and other people on the contact list. Samuel Mbutu’s body was discovered in a city bus park two days ago. It was ferried to the city mortuary whereby the family positively identified it. An autopsy conducted by the pathologist revealed that he was hit on the head, be also had injuries on his hands and visible signs of strangulation on his neck. Police officers have launched investigations into the mystery murder.
