In his 8-year stint at Royal Media Services (RMS), Johnson Mwakazi became a household name and one of the most recognizable faces on Kenyan television. Between 2006 and 2014, he hosted various broadcasts on Citizen TV including the popular Power Breakfast show on weekday mornings.

Mwakazi was born and brought up in Kibera. As he’s previously recounted, he fell into addictión to pornógraphy as a teenager, and battled it for years even after becoming a born-again Christian.

After finishing high school, the situation at home got even tougher after his mother lost her job. Mwakazi ended up going to Kenya National Theatre (KNT) in hopes of landing acting gigs.

His deep voice also saw him become the voice of the TV station, voicing various promos and ads that ran on the station. Mwakazi left RMS in May 2014 and went on to several senior roles in media and marketing – including Brand Ambassador for Pan Africa Life Assurance, CEO of Fountain Media Group and, most recently, Director of his own company Royal Voice International.

Mr Mwakazi, an award winning journalist, moved out of the Royal Media Services after eight years of service before joining the Wholesome TV.

However, he could later leave the station where he served as CEO after the management allegedly went bankrupt. He was among the employees who were asked to leave until the company asked them to go back.It will be interesting to see the news anchor who grew up in Kibera slums make back to the screens

Years after leaving Citizen TV, Johnson Mwakazi founded Royal Voice International, a media company that produces films, provides voiceover work, and also provides presentations and training.

The celebrated voice-over artist noted that he was introduced into pornography by a friend. “My addiction to pornography began in class 8 when a fellow classmate in Kibera invited me to watch a ‘movie’ and offered to pay for it. I did not know I was being initiated into watching pornography and from then on I continued to watch it and gradually got addicted to it. Any money I got I used it to watch pornography and at times invited other friends to watch with me.

“I was ashamed to even look my mother in the eye. Nobody told me what I was doing was wrong. I just had a feeling in me that told me it wasn’t right,” he told a local publication.
