Nelson Havi, former President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), has announced his intention to run for deputy to former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i in the 2027 general election. Havi made the declaration on his X (formerly Twitter) account, expressing his willingness to work with Matiang’i to remove President William Ruto.

Havi’s comments were prompted by what he described as former Chief Justice David Maraga’s unwillingness to respond to public calls to run for president. Havi sarcastically blasted Maraga’s inaction, suggesting that by the end of President Ruto’s term, Kenya’s situation could deteriorate even further, making it harder for future leaders to make significant change.

“Kenyans, if we do not remain watchful, Dr. Fred Matiang’i may be the only alternative to Dr. William Ruto in 2027, and he may become President. We would have gone from bad to worse.”If C.J. David Maraga declines our sincere request to run, I will volunteer my name,” Havi stated.

The announcement has sparked debate, with many individuals speculating about the political consequences of a Havi-Matiang’i ticket. Both leaders have yet to provide additional details about their proposals.
