The Maa community has continued to mourn a renowned author Henry Ole Kulet who died Tuesday night in a Nakuru hospital at the age of 75.
The three times award-winning author was born in 1946 at Enkare Ngusur area in Narok East sub county where he grew up in the colonial era.
Narok Water and Sewerage Company Managing Director (MD) Stanley Kuyoni mourned the fallen hero saying he was a mirror in the Maa community.
Kuyoni said the renowned author was a very creative and hard working person who beat all the odds in the community to become an international writer.

“HE WAS OUR INSPIRATION WHEN WE WERE GROWING UP AS HIS BOOKS WERE CENTERED ON CULTURE AND ENVIRONMENT. THIS WAS A GREAT INSPIRATION TO THE MAA PEOPLE,” HE SAID.
Kuyoni said the late Kulet personally inspired him to advance his studies up to university level as he felt that even the Maa people can work hard in school and compete for the same opportunities with other young men in the country.
The Narok Maasai council of elders have also mourned Ole Kulet describing him as a talented man who informed the community through writing.
The Council chairman Kelena Ole Nchoe said that the late Kulet was among the few people who managed to get education in the colonial era and used their knowledge wisely to educate the community.
“IT IS VERY UNFORTUNATE THAT WE HAVE LOST ONE OF US WHO WAS VERY INSTRUMENTAL IN EDUCATING THE SOCIETY THROUGH WRITING. THOUGH HE IS GONE, HIS GOOD WORK REMAINS TO BE READ BY MANY MORE GENERATIONS TO COME,” SAID OLE NCHOE.

Among the books authored by the late Kulet include, Is it possible, to become a man, The hunter, Daughter of Maa, Moran no more, blossoms of the savannah and the Elephant dance.
The late Kulet started his writing career in 1971 when he authored his first book ‘Is it possible’ and is a three-time winner of the prestigious Jomo Kenyatta Prize of Literature.
His other novel, Blossoms of the Savannah (2008) was made a compulsory set book in Kenya’s secondary school syllabus in the year 2018.
