Police officers in Muhoroni have revealed what the murder suspect told them minutes after his arrest.

According to the source, the suspect identified as Shem Akuku Otieno aged twenty eight years was arrested in a sugar plantation while frail after he swallowed a cattle dip poisonous chemical. The suspect was arrested at Kamswa village and later told police and locals he would die anytime as he had swallowed the chemical. Police revealed that he had tried to die by suicide before being caught. It is not clear at what point he swallowed the poison. Shem Akuku went berserk on Saturday night killing four close family members.

Police officers rushed him to Muhoroni sub county hospital where he was admitted under watch. Nyanza police chief Patrick Tito said they will wait for his recovery then further actions will be taken. Police also revealed that they are yet to establish the motive of the killings but hoped they will do soon. Residents said the suspect picked a machete killing his expectant wife of five months, his six- year old son who was then sleeping in the bed then went to the neighbouring house and killed his uncle and aunt.

Local described his as a humble man who didn’t have any history of violence.
