Abraham Kithure Kindiki, a Kenyan politician and lawyer currently serving as the third Deputy President of Kenya, has made an intense pledge to tackle the surge in abductions and femicides that have gripped the country.

He has promised to collaborate closely with his successor in the Interior Ministry. Speaking passionately to a crowd in Taita Taveta County, Kindiki vowed to bring the “unknown people” behind enforced disappearances to justice.

However, reactions to his announcement have been fierce, with some questioning the sincerity of his commitment.

Prominent lawyer Nelson Havi took to X, calling out Kindiki’s words and suggesting that his rhetoric might be “nonsense,” perhaps even intended to insult Kenyans’ intelligence.

“Does he himself even believe this nonsense?” Havi wrote, reflecting the distrust in Kindiki’s ability to bring about real change after violence allegedly soared under his previous tenure.

While some supporters hailed Kindiki as an “inspiration,” others saw the move as mere “justification for past violence.” One commentator accused the government of “agitating through ignorant utterances” to provoke unrest, then abducting protesters.

As Kenyans hold their breath, all eyes remain on Kindiki’s next steps in this crucial battle for safety and justice.
