A family in Nyeri has been thrown into mourning following the death of their son.

Kennedy Maina died months after being admitted to hospital with severe injuries sustained during anti-government protests.

Maina was taken to the hospital following violent clashes between demonstrators and police in Karatina.

The protests quickly escalated into chaos police deploying tear gas and live ammunition to disperse the demonstrators, leading to numerous injuries and fatalities.

In the ensuing chaos, Maina was shot on his stomach and his intestines were severely damaged. The young protestor spent months in the Intensive Care Unit fighting for his life before his death.

Pain and grief engulfed the air as family members, relatives and friends gathered at the hospital to view Maina’s body.

Struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss, the family members expressed their frustration with the circumstances that led to the death of their kin.
