Yusuf Noah, popularly known as Refigah, the Grandpa record boss, who officially quit showbiz early this year to focus on politics, was elated yesterday when he met a single mother he had helped online.
“Sometimes last year around September, Bright Atieno Mbeda shared a video online of herself highlighting her plight while seeking assistance from a popular media personality and I was touched by her story,” he says.
Bright, who dropped out of school in form two due to lack of school fees and at the tender age of 22, made the call which saw Yusuf take up the challenge.
“After interacting with her online, we never met until yesterday, I quickly gathered that she was not keen on handouts and was, instead, determined to be empowered. Her passion was in deejaying,” he added.
This saw her enroll in a deejaying school, a course she successfully completed thanks to the hopeful Kibra MP candidate.
When reached out for a comment by Standard Entertainment, the elated Bright could not hide her joy. “I was at the lowest point of my life when Refigah stepped in and I am forever indebted. He has completely changed my life and I am hoping and looking forward for employment now that I have the skills required,” she said, stating that her dream is to work at any local radio station.
With this being a political season and politicians jumping on different shenanigans trying to outdo each other, Refigah refutes that this was not an act of clout chasing.
“I had no political ambition when I first started empowering Bright. She is not a voter in my constituency but a deserving Kenyan whom I chose to empower. I have vowed to work on a transformative and empowering agenda as opposed to handouts which has been the norm with nothing to show after every five years,” said Refigah.
